Children of the Light

I gave Lissette a flashlight to play with & immediately she shined the light right at her eyes. I kept trying to get her to use it to shine the light on the wall or something, afraid that she'd ruin her eyes. But she thought it was just grand to stare directly into the light.
It was then that I made an observation. My children like light. They're sort of obsessed with it really. They're drawn to it, talk about it, are dazzled by it. Then a Bible verse or two came up from my memory banks. God calls us "children of light." Read it for yourself.
Jesus said in John 12:36 "While you have the light, believe in the light that you may become children of light."
And Paul said in I Thessalonians 5:5 "You are all children of light, and children of day. We don't belong to the night, nor to darkness..."
Then I asked myself if I am drawn to God the way my children are drawn to light. Do I allow myself to stare at His glory & be amazed? I think that some texts in the Bible have some treasured meaning that you can only understand when you've taken care of children, when you glimpse God through a child's eyes. Now, when I turn on a light & my daughter exclaims with a squeal, "Light!!!", I copy her & remind myself that I need to spend time gazing at the Light.

"One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple." Psalms 27:4
