Our Summer Surprises

We had a couple of surprises waiting at home for us one night after coming home from Grandma A's house. We walked through our back gate, carrying our sleepy buggers, and saw a cow dining on our green lawn. We decided that we'd deal with the cow after we put the kids to bed.
While I was changing Christopher, I kept seeing a black object fly across my peripheral vision. I thought that it was just one of the pesky houseflies that gather around the diaper pail during the summer. I started screaming to Michael when I finally realized that it was a mouse. Suddenly, a scene from Lady & the Tramp flashed into my memory..."a mouse in the nursery!" Michael informed me later that it was a rat, not a mouse in the nursery in Lady & the Tramp. Blah, blah, rat, mouse, whatever!! They're both vermin & they don't belong in the nursery!!!!
Anyways, Michael had grabbed the bathroom trashcan & was lunging around the room trying to catch the mouse while I was screaming & darting out of the way. It was a hilarious scene! As usual, my hubby was victorious in his hunting!
Then we moved on to the cow problem... she came across the wire fence separating our yard from the pasture next door where they had 4 heffers & 1 bull. She was attracted by our green grass, turns out that it was greener on the other side! We tried to herd her back over the fence, but she wasn't havin' it. We tried to get Oscar to herd her back over the fence, but he got kicked & I got charged. It was then that I decided that She must be the He from over the fence & I got a little more worried. Michael, with confidence from his successful mouse hunt, decided that he, not only could, but would rope the beast. I ran in the house to call for help. I didn't know whose cows they were, but in a small town like ours, you just call someone who does. Lisa helped me to figure out the number to call & I woke they owners up by telling them, "i think your bull is in our yard & my husband is trying to rope it." He woke up quickly & drove over just as fast. After assessing the situation, the cow.....jumped over the moon. No, but dang those things can jump!! She jumped back over the fence & we spent some time with the owners repairing the fence. The cow was, apparently, a problem jumper & the owners moved the whole herd...to market.
