Sabbath - Sunny
u
We had a beautiful sunny Sabbath afternoon at Catherine Creek. It's on the eastern end of the gorge & is in the rain shadow of the Cascade mountains. It is on lava rock & gets very dry in the summer. During the winter that end of the gorge has lots of waterfalls, because the lava rock doesn't absorb any of the moisture. And during the spring, there is an abundance of early wildflowers. I wouldn't want to live there, but they do get a lot more sun than we do. Catherine Creek has lots of hiking & wildflowers so, in the spring, the place is packed full of North-westerners who are desperate to get outside & get some sun.
We went on a picnic with Mom & Dad A, and Great Grandma A. The guys went foraging for edible plants and we got to sample some of the things they found. I took pictures of the plants, but the sun was so bright that I couldn't see my LCD to tell that they were blurry. Thus, they have been deleted. We picked Yellow Bells and ate the bulb - very starchy & tastes like rice. The guys also found wild onion, but I don't eat regular onions in the raw so, I passed on that wild delicacy.
The kids were so cute, running through the field and stopping to look at the wildflowers. They were like Mom A's little dog Daisy, who is a ball of nerves. Daisy was along for the walk & she went wild, running & jumping. Christopher & Lissette ran & emphasized their breaths by panting loudly like little doggies.
It was a great day, Michael & I got our first sunburns & we loaded up on Vitamin D.
